The North Node Through the Signs

The north node acts like a compass in your birth chart, showing where to orient for greater purpose and fulfilment.

Often the north node will lie outside your comfort zone and highlight an area of life to be developed. We limit our growth when we continually lean into our strengths and focus on the things that come naturally to us.

The big lesson of the north node is that happiness and meaning come when we stretch into new territories.

If our purpose in life is to reach our full potential and remove any blocks to loving ourselves and others with our whole hearts, then this point can offer powerful guidance.

To find your north node, look for the upside-down horseshoe shape that looks like a mountain. Your south node symbolises your comfort zone and can be found precisely opposite the north node in your chart.

North Node in Aries 

Developing confidence, independence and leadership. Adopting an entrepreneurial mindset. Embracing adventure. Becoming more assertive.  

Comfort zone

If you’re measuring your happiness based on the happiness of people around you, it might be time to give up the need to please. With your south node in Libra, you feel most comfortable when there is harmony and agreement in social situations.  

If you find yourself giving more than you want to, struggling to say no or feeling incomplete without another person you need to orient towards your north node.

Purpose

Your biggest lesson is to focus your energy on your leadership potential. It's time to embody the characteristics of strength you admire in your close relationships. Your confidence will grow when you develop your assertive side and trust your intuition. It's time to find your own identity, speak up for your needs and drop comparison to become the fullest expression of yourself.

North Node in Taurus

Connecting with your inner values. Developing your sense of self-worth. Believing in your ability to attract abundance.

Comfort zone

You may have become careless with your finances. With your south node in Scorpio, you may fear loss and separation. And you might even be a little suspicious of others. 

If you find yourself putting other people’s needs above your own or operating from a scarcity mindset, you should to orient towards your north node. 

Purpose 

Opening up new levels of trust about your sense of security in the world will replace any struggles you're holding onto. You need to develop faith in your ability to attract abundance by doing what makes your heart sing. Otherwise, all the thank yous and pats-on-the-back will never be enough! It's time to let go of the need for external validation and pursue what lights you up. 

North Node in Gemini

Developing communication skills. Becoming proficient at expressing yourself without righteousness. 

Comfort zone

In the past, you wanted to go at it alone and avoid societal responsibilities. With your south node in Sagittarius, you may get caught up in certain belief systems and believe you’re the authority on truth. In this life, you have to learn how to assume a central role society, listen and have more two-way conversations. 

If you find yourself insisting that your beliefs are the only right ones, you may need to orient more towards your north node. 

Purpose

You are a messenger. You are here to test and challenge the popular mindset and entrenched way of doing things. You are full of original thoughts and ideas. Writing, teaching and lecturing are all pursuits that would bring great fulfilment. In this life, you have to learn how to present your ideas in a less emotionally charged way. You are meant to distribute joy and hope. Be careful of the tendency to overexpand in pursuit of the material. 

North Node in Cancer 

Getting in touch with feelings and emotions. Creating a nurturing family environment. Letting others in. 

Comfort zone 

You’re comfortable dealing with business and worldly affairs. With your south node in Capricorn, there is a lot of material ambition and the need to be centre stage. You're highly practical and have strong organisational ability. But the more you push in your career the less happiness you’ll find. 

If you find yourself out of touch with your feelings and concentrating on your career to the detriment of other areas of life, you will find greater balance by focusing on your north node. 

Purpose

Fulfilment will come from learning to take care of yourself and others, by creating a nurturing home and family environment. You’re learning to open yourself to the pleasure of giving and receiving. By letting go of any fear associated with sharing your emotions, you will create greater depth in your relationships and your life. It's time to establish a solid home base, become an excellent cook, and enjoy a central role in your family.   

North Node in Leo

True self-expression. Strengthening confidence. Instilling self-belief in others. 

 Comfort zone 

With your south node in Aquarius, you naturally work well in group settings. You have a lot of inherent wisdom that you can channel into your individual creative efforts. Your longing for friendship and connection may drain your energy and block your ability to build true self-confidence through your achievements. 

If you find yourself distracted from your individual goals, relying on the help of friends, or putting your creative expression on hold for sake of a larger ideal you should orient towards your north node.  

Purpose 

It's your mission to make a name for yourself and take credit for your work. You need to learn to overcome self-doubt and build strength within to become a leader. You are working to develop confidence and kingliness. Ask yourself, 'what do I want to create in this life?' Your purpose is all about finding modes of true self-expression and developing the courage to put yourself and your work out there. 

You also have a special mission to instil this confidence in others.

Virgo

Restoring order. Committing to your goals. Becoming more discerning. 

Comfort zone

In the past, you may have been a little lax about managing your life. With your south node Pisces, your affairs may be out of order and your emotional sensitivity may have gotten the better of you. 

If you've been putting others ahead of yourself, living with your head in the clouds or letting hopeless people drain your energy, you will find more balance by focusing on your north node. 

Purpose

You have incredible empathy and sensitivity, which you shouldn't lose. But it's your mission to balance this with clear goals for yourself. It's time to get a little pickier with who you choose to help. Your purpose is to find a healthy balance between spiritual pursuits and practical duties. You're being called to manage the details of the everyday with logic and reason. You’re learning to be less swayed by emotions and become more experienced in strategic decision-making. Creating supportive daily routines and taking care of your health will bring greater happiness.  

Libra 

Inspire others. Become an amazing collaborator. Deepen your experience of love.

You have gained a lot of self-confidence through your past achievements. With your south node in Aries, you've learned to lean into challenging conversations when required, trust your decision-making ability and pursue your goals without distraction. 

If you have trouble in relationships and tend to see others as rivals, then focusing on your north node can bring greater fulfilment.

You are an incredible role model as you demonstrate what a strong sense of self looks like. Now it's time to harness all of your confidence and put it to work on behalf of others. In this life, you are learning the art of compromise. You are learning that collaborating has its advantages. You're inspired to establish peaceful relations and diplomacy can become your forte. By learning to encourage, support and inspire you can deepen your experience of love and gain greater satisfaction from your interactions. 

North Node in Scorpio

Letting go of attachment to comfort and security. Personal transformation. 

Comfort zone

It's natural for you to want material stability and beautiful possessions. With your south node in Taurus, you have come to want a high level of security. You believe this will be obtained through your own hard work and building up a solid safety net. With your south node ruled by Venus, you have an appreciation for aesthetics and an artistic nature. 

If you find yourself feeling envious of others or overly interested in wealth accumulation, then orienting towards your north node will help you find more balance. 

Purpose

You are learning to be less attached to material things and release the need for self-sufficiency. You do not want to get trapped with excess baggage which will hinder you from seeing all the new possibilities for your life. Scorpio is all about transformation and there may be extreme changes ahead. This could involve your core beliefs, values and outlook on life. You may be called to confront your shadow through deep inner work. There is an opportunity for a complete rebirth to establish a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you. You love to be in the company of others. You may often find yourself involved in superficial daily communication, which can be quite draining. With your south node in Gemini, you can make yourself appear like a chameleon to fit in, never taking a decisive stand. You may be fearful about committing to one idea or one belief.  

Purpose

Your mission is to move beyond surface knowledge to a quest for higher wisdom and truth. If you can create space to travel, pursue philosophy, theology or other interests that expand your mind, you will find great fulfilment. You may need to develop a longer attention span, nurture your ability for independent thought and cultivate the spirit of adventure. North Node in Capricorn

Learning to take charge. Committing to goals. Finding self-reliance. 

Comfort zone

You may start life a little shy, afraid of responsibility and with a tendency to worry about things you don't need to. With your south node in Cancer, you may be holding on to things that happened in the past and getting absorbed in the emotions of others. You may have to overcome problems or limitations in your family and domestic life before you can reach your full potential. 

If you get bogged down in other people’s problems or rely heavily on friends and family, you may need to move towards your north node.  

Purpose

You should strive for greater detachment from the emotional problems of others so you can focus on your life's work and mission. Your lesson is to foster self-discipline and persistence. Know that anything is possible if you set a goal and work towards it with unwavering commitment. With Saturn ruling your north node, success will usually come later in life once you've mastered these lessons. You may become a business owner, architect or leader: someone who is recognised for their responsible approach to life and ability to take charge. 

North Node in Aquarius

Considering the greater good. Becoming aware of the needs of others. 

Comfort zone

You're at home when expressing yourself creatively. With your south node in Leo, you've developed pride and achieved a degree of admiration from others. You're comfortable in the spotlight and love to be adored. You may surround yourself with people who make you look good. 

If you find yourself overly concerned with your reputation or looking down on others you may need to move towards your north node.  

Purpose

Your mission is to infuse others with the warmth of your spirit and inspire them creatively... but you have a lot to learn about the world before you can do your greatest work. This life is not all about you. Over time you will realise that having a lot of followers is unimportant. Your lesson is to see yourself as part of the greater humanity and practice being humble. You're here to teach others why diversity of opinion makes the world a better place. You can tap into your innovative nature for the greater good. When you set your goals from a place of generosity rather than a desire to get what you want you will find the greatest fulfilment. 

North Node in Pisces

Releasing perfection. Surrendering anxiety and over-analysis. Learning to love unconditionally. 

Comfort zone

You naturally seek order and pay attention to the finer details. With your south node in Virgo, you love solving puzzles and applying facts. You're a perfectionist at heart and you tend to over-analyse situations, which can cause you some stress. 

If you feel disconnected and separate from others or are living life in an overly regimented way, you will find greater balance by orienting towards your north node. 

Purpose

You are here to develop your intuition and start to trust your feelings. You are spiritually gifted and unusually creative. Your lesson is to understand who you truly are and share it with others. Expressing yourself through art may be a good way to slowly release your inner critic. You're learning about compassion but be careful not to absorb the burdens of others. If you can learn to let relax and let go of rigid mindsets, you will find greater happiness and ease.
