Awakening Intuition: Your Guide to Aligning with Universal Guidance
Intuition is subtle yet profound form of divine guidance. It transcends the rational mind and invites us to connect with the universe, creation itself, universal consciousness (or god) through the path of the soul. When we tap deeply into this inner knowing, we realise it’s not limited or personal—it’s a connection to the infinite web that ties all life together.
Cultivating this inner wisdom can make life’s journey smoother by opening us to a life of faith, trust and alignment. But living in tune with intuition requires more than just listening. It demands courage, a strong nervous system, the ability to work together with our fears (rather than letting them do a number on us) particularly when the mind wants to keep us safe, or the guidance we receive doesn’t align with what our soul’s ultimate goal. Let me explain…
Strengthening Trust in Intuition
Imagine a Reiki healer who receives intuitive guidance to dedicate more energy to his corporate job. This is a counterintuitive message as he longs to transition fully into his healing practice. However, he has built up a strong relationship with this inner guidance, so takes the leap back into full time employment. Voluntary redundancies are offered to full-time staff members, which ultimately provides him the resources and financial freedom needed to pursue his dream. This is the paradox of intuition—guidance may not always be easy to follow, yet it unfolds our highest good.
I’ve experienced these tests of faith myself many times. A memorable example was an intuitive nudge that came in the form of inspiration: I’d like to go to Disneyland and I’d like to buy a Minnie Mouse t-shirt. Within a couple of days, I’d stumbled upon my dream Minnie Mouse t-shirt at a thrift shop and thought ‘ fabulous, maybe I don’t need to go to Disneyland anymore’. But that weekend I was wearing my new T-shirt out for coffee with my friend Georgina and she invited me to go to Hong Kong Disneyland with her and her family!
Of course I knew this trip was divinely aligned but my mind found it to be a waste of money when I didn’t have a lot. I put the idea to the back of my thoughts but the signs only got stronger. I received some more inspiration to go out and buy a specific deck of oracle cards. I brought the cards home, pulled one card and it said ‘take the trip’. There was no ignoring it. My flights were booked. On this trip I also managed to line up an amazing 1:1 Gong training at Red Doors with Asia’s largest collection of gongs, and I now play gong in all my Kundalini Yoga classes. My inner child was very happy to connect with her love of all things Disney. And I had an incredible work opportunity to come home to, which meant the financial challenge was no longer an issue.
Recognising Intuition
How can we discern intuitive guidance from the mind’s chatter? It begins with practice and a connection to the body. Intuition often feels different: it’s expansive, flowing, or even electric, compared to the louder, fear-based tone of the mind that prioritises safety. Here’s a simple rule of thumb:
The Mind: Louder, fear-driven and often rooted in past experiences or societal expectations.
Intuition: Quieter, expansive and accompanied by a sense of calm or inspiration.
Awakening the Third Eye
The third eye, located at the center of the forehead, is a key to unlocking intuition. When it is balanced and open, we become highly intuitive, imaginative, and attuned to signs and synchronicities. Dreams feel vivid, and we’re more likely to trust that life is unfolding for our highest good—even when we can’t directly see the bigger picture.
What happens when the signs seem absent?
It doesn’t mean our intuition has vanished. Sometimes, it’s an invitation to trust our own judgment and develop confidence in the absence of external validation. We don’t want to become overly reliant on guidance to the point where we’re unable to act without it. However, often, the signs are there; we’re just asking for ‘signier signs’ because we doubt the ones we’ve already received or have trouble listening to our own innate wisdom. This is a relationship that needs to be forged and strengthened.
Like stars in the sky, our guides are always present and supporting us, but sometimes clouds obscure them. Meditation and Kundalini Yoga help create the stillness and clarity needed for truth to shine through. However, balance is key—we are spiritual beings having a human experience and we have a responsibility to honour the intuitive nudges then take inspired action to begin to create the world we want to be a part of.
The Balance of Being, Doing, and Thinking
Living a life guided by intuition requires balancing three essential modes: being, doing, and thinking.
Here’s how an imbalance in one of these areas can manifest:
Too Much Being: Guidance flows abundantly, but without action, it remains unintegrated.
Too Much Doing: We push forward, but may find ourselves on a path misaligned with our highest good because we haven’t paused to check in.
Too Much Thinking: Overthinking disconnects us from the body’s innate wisdom and the subtle voice of intuition.
Moving between these states is a dance. To create the life we’re meant to live, we must allow space for all three.
Practices to Deepen Intuition
Kundalini Yoga: This powerful practice works rapidly to align mind, body, and soul, fostering stillness and clarity.
Meditation: Focused meditations, especially those targeting the third eye, enhance intuitive connection.
Journaling: Allow the words to flow from your soul, be sure to reflect on the guidance and patterns and begin to integrate it into your life.
Astrology: The wisdom of the stars can confirm our inner knowing when we need that little extra support and inspiration to beyond the limitations of the mind and societal or familial expectations .
Trusting the Journey
Intuition isn’t about having all the answers in advance. We may see the big vision but only the very next step that we need to take now. Therefore, this journey is about staying in the present moment, taking it step-by-step, cultivating the strength and courage to move forward BEFORE we can see exactly how it’s going to work out.
With practice, trust and a whole lot of courage we can align with our soul’s purpose and live a life of deeper connection, grace, and fulfillment.
Note: courage is moving forward in the face of fear, not never experiencing fear at all.
